What are you eating & what's eating you - THURSDAY!
Hello, everyone!
Im here..lurking and reading...had so much to catch up on after my week away in Quebec. Since Ive gotten back, my LifePath groups require further study before each class...Im working on the illustrations for my cousin's stories of my great-greats, and Im trying to get Mother higher up on the list of "need" regarding an assisted living facility. Even Mom has realized that she needs more help. Niagara has a very high population of seniors so getting a place in one of the facilities is very difficult. Im touring my secind facility in the afternoon and a third the next day then I will go directly down to the CCAC office and, with full support of Mother's family doctor and her heart doctor, beg them to help me get her into a better place. She gets so exhausted walking to the dining room, despite her walker, that Im afraid she will fall again and perhaps suffer greatly. Mom turns 90 on Nov 26th. She doesnt go for meals much because its such a long walk for her.. so not eating makes her weaker and Im told she is now falling asleep at the table when she does make it down there.
Im also planning a small Afternoon Tea for her birthday...I wondered about a gift but I'd been downloading wonderful photos of her hometown area and Derek suggested that I use an electronic picture frame and load the computer images onto the frame for her..then she can see the changing photos of her beloved Ottawa Valley and river..all the places that are so familiar to her. The retirement home where she is now (for totally independent people) offered me the use of their activity room from 2-4 which is just perfect and all the coffee and tea...all at NO charge..and I will be baking for the dozen or so who will attend. I'm planning balloons too and a corsage and a special European whipped cream torte for her from the Dutch bakery. I will be too busy to worry about nibbling.
I've developed a few recipes, wrote them up on facebook and got such a reaction! It's been suggested to me that I create a book with my original recipes, my smart-assed comments and even some of my artwork. Well, that might be fun to do.
